What is the Alabama Renaissance Faire?
The Official Alabama Renaissance Faire is one of the largest running all- volunteer events in the nation. This Faire, in its 30+ years, has served the community through both education and entertainment. The Faire itself is put on by an all-volunteer, not for profit organization, known simply as the Roundtable.
The time period for the Faire is from 1100 to 1650 A.D., which covers the Medieval and Renaissance eras of Europe.
Should I bring coin? (Money)
We have many delightful period and handcrafted vendors, as well as a full food court. Many of the musicians sell CDs, and the Faire itself sells t-shirts and souvenirs. While some of the performers' expenses are paid from the King’s purse, they are permitted to pass the hat for you to show appreciation. Cash is always useful and very easily accepted, plus there are several ATMs within walking distance. Some vendors may only accept checks. while others will accept credit cards.
Can I bring a weapon: sword, muskets, and prop weapons?
These type of weapons are permitted at our Faire. We ask that you make sure to “peace-tie” any swords or knives that you bring with you. By “peace-tie" we mean that your bladed weapon must be tied to the sheath/scabbard in such a way that prevents you from being able to draw it. For other prop weapons, please use common sense and don’t wave them around, as the park is usually crowded at this time.
Can I bring my pet?
Dogs are permitted, but you must clean up after them. If you are not responsible for your pet, you may be asked to remove the pet. !!Dragons must be leashed!! Please remember Lords and Ladies walk these grounds and do not wish to soil their dress by stepping in your pet's leavings. Please clean up after them.
Should we come in costume?
By all means! Festival guests are absolutely encouraged to come in costume! It adds immeasurably to the fun and appearance of our Faire.
There is a FREE costume-making workshop on the Second Saturday in October from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the studio in the rear yard of Kennedy-Douglass Art Center, 217 E. Tuscaloosa St. Bring three yards of 54" wide fabric for the workshop.
